Our philosophy: Education through Immersion
We put your educational needs at the forefront of what we do, offering individual and small-group classes tailored to your needs and abilities. The majority of our students come to us with little or no prior knowledge of Arabic. Our aim is to equip them with the skills necessary to read, write, and communicate in everyday situations in the shortest amount of time possible. For more advanced students, we offer tailored tuition focused on continuous improvement of their Arabic and addressing any gaps in their knowledge.
We will evaluate your level of Arabic during our first lesson and choose the right learning materials for you. We use a combination of standard textbooks (i.e. Al-kitaab fi-ta’alum al-‘Arabiya), authentic texts, and our own materials designed at the Center. Our teachers are flexible and will adjust your curriculum to any particular needs you have – for instance, if your aim is to translate Arabic texts, we will devote parts of your lessons to this skill, while if you want to get by seamlessly in the Marrakesh Medina, your classes will be heavy on the conversation front!
We teach Arabic through full language immersion – our teachers (though fluent in French and English) will speak Arabic to you from day one. We also offer cultural activities and volunteering opportunities, which will allow you to dive into Moroccan culture as you are learning the language. Why not learn the Arabic names for vegetables while cooking a delicious tagine? Or explore the intricate writing system through your first calligraphy lesson?
Which Arabic?
We teach two varieties of Arabic – Modern Standard Arabic (MSA/fussha) and Moroccan Colloquial Arabic (Darija). Students can opt for a single variety or combine an MSA and a Darija course. Modern Standard Arabic is the formal Arabic language used in official communication and media across the Arab world. Moroccan Colloquial Arabic (Darija) is the dialect of Arabic spoken in daily life across Morocco.
If you are not sure which variety would suit you better, contact us and we will be happy to assist you!
